Many redaction tools, including some paid ones, work by drawing a solid shape on top of the existing PDF page content. Visually this looks identical to real redaction. Technically, it is not: the text underneath is untouched, still stored in the file exactly as before, just visually obscured by something on top of it. Selecting the area, or running the file through a PDF text-extraction library, recovers the original content instantly.

This tool works differently and deliberately avoids that failure mode: when you redact, it renders each affected page to an image, draws the black boxes directly onto that image's pixels, and replaces the entire original page with the flattened image. There is no separate 'box on top of text' layer, there is only the final image, which by definition contains no extractable text data anywhere.

You do not have to take this on faith. After redacting and downloading a file, you can verify it yourself: try selecting text on the redacted page in a PDF viewer (if the whole page is an image, nothing will be selectable at all, not even the visible parts). You can also open the file's text-extraction output using any free PDF-to-text tool, if a page shows no text in the extraction result, that confirms it has been flattened rather than just overlaid.

This same verification approach is generally worth applying to any redaction tool you use for genuinely sensitive material, not just this one: before you trust a tool with something important, do a quick test with dummy sensitive-looking text and confirm it truly cannot be recovered from the output, rather than assuming a black box means the job is done.
