The right amount to trim depends on how much white space surrounds the content specifically. Check the preview and estimate the margin as a rough percentage of the page: if the content only fills the center 70% of the page, you have roughly 15% of white space on each side to safely trim, though it's worth leaving a small buffer rather than cropping right up to the edge of the content.

For documents with inconsistent white space across different pages, a single crop value applied uniformly may work well for most pages but slightly tight or loose on a few. In that case, choose a margin value that's safe across the whole document rather than optimal for any single page, since cropping too aggressively risks cutting into real content on the pages with the least white space.
